Description

Geniposidic acid is an iridoid glucoside found in Eucommia, Castilleja, Plantago, and Gardenia species; it displays antihypertensive, anti-obesity, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, and anticancer chemotherapeutic properties. In vivo, geniposidic acid promotes collagen synthesis and forms inter- and intra-molecular crosslinks within collagen fibers. Geniposidic acid also increases osteoblast proliferation and inhibits tumor growth in vivo. Additionally, this compound may also have benefit as a pesticide, as it is toxic to Kalotermes flavicollis termites and Crematogaster scutellaris ants.
