Description

Hydrocortisone is a steroid hormone that is produced in the adrenal cortex and is involved in stress signaling. Hydrocortisone is a glucocorticoid and is also known as cortisol in its endogenous form; it exhibits anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activities. Hydrocortisone is clinically used to treat eczema, psoriasis, gout, and severe allergic reactions. Hydrocortisone stimulates gluconeogenesis, inhibits inflammatory cytokine production, and shifts the immune response from Th1 to Th4 subtype.
